Meet Maddie
I’m a North Carolina native, a parent, and a community leader who believes deeply in strong public schools that serve every child. As the sister of a Wake County Public School teacher, I’ve seen firsthand the dedication of our educators and the challenges they face. Through my work in food policy and advocacy, I’ve built a career bringing people together to solve complex challenges. I would bring that same problem-solving approach to the school board.
I’m beginning this campaign by listening to families, educators, and community members to understand how we can work in unison to strengthen our schools. Please connect with me at maddiesegal@gmail.com.
Early Focus Areas
As I start this journey, several priority areas are emerging:
Empowering and retaining great educators
Our teachers and school staff are the foundation of strong schools. I believe in centering educator expertise, reducing unnecessary burdens, and creating conditions where great teaching can flourish.
Supporting the whole child
A healthy school experience is about more than academics. Especially in the early years, we must ensure students have a balanced experience that includes ample outdoor time, the arts, and movement (alongside the thoughtful use of technology) to support their full development.
Ensuring students’ basic needs are met
Students cannot reach their full potential if they are hungry. Addressing food insecurity must be a priority in our schools. I’m eager to explore practical and creative ways to increase access to nutritious school meals so every student can learn, grow, and succeed.
Protecting and strengthening public education
Wake County’s public schools are one of our community’s greatest strengths. I believe in ensuring our schools have the resources they need (especially adequate, reliable funding) so that every student has access to an excellent education.
